The tension in Israel has reached its peak when a handful of protesters have managed to enter the Israeli Parliament, where have rebuked members of the government. The assault did not last long and they were immediately arrested and evicted. A video, which we collect in the piece that heads these lines, has recorded the moment in which security agents expelled them.
This attempted assault is part of the great protest that the country is experiencing, the biggest constitutional crisis since its founding in 1948. The discontent arose after the new government of Benjamin Netanyahu announced its judicial reform plan, which seeks to reduce independence of Justice and increase the control of the Executive over it.
The legislation, whose most controversial aspects are already advancing in the Knesset (Israeli Parliament), has provoked the largest protests in Israel’s history, with a record 650,000 attendees on the night of Sunday to Monday, after Netanyahu dismissed the minister of Defense, Yoav Gallant, for asking to stop its processing.
The President of Israel, Isaac Herzog, has made a urgent appeal to prime ministerBenjamin Netanyahu, to “act responsibly and courageously” and stop “immediately” the legislative process of the controversial judicial reform that divides the country.
