The main promoter of the protests against the Cuban government leaves the island and travels to Spain

Yunior García has assured that his idea is to return to Cuba, but has insisted that he has chosen to leave the island in order to continue denouncing what is happening there.

Yunior García, one of the main promoters of the marches against the Government of Cuba, has left the island and traveled to Spain. The Cuban opponent landed in Madrid at 2:00 p.m. yesterday, Wednesday, with his wife Dayana Prieto.

Last weekend he was unable to carry out his plans to parade through the streets of Havana after the security forces besieged his home.

García has assured that he left Cuba because, although he assumed that they were not going to arrest him to avoid turning him into a symbol, he assumed that he would be “silenced”, isolated at home and with hardly any communication. Likewise, he has declared that “Cuba does not need more martyrs”, alluding in particular to cases such as Oswaldo Payá.

He has asserted that he has not requested asylum in Spain because his idea is to return to Cuba. The playwright understands that there may be criticism of his decision, but has insisted that he has chosen to leave the island in order to continue denouncing what is happening inside it.
