European Union antitrust regulators have searched the offices of an energy drink company in several EU countries, suspected of participating in a cartel and abusing its dominant position, the European Commission said on Tuesday.
Austrian energy drink maker Red Bull confirmed that its facility had been searched, the Austrian news agency reported. APAthough the company declined to comment further when contacted by Reuters.
The executive arm of the community bloc, which also acts as a competition watchdog in the 27-country bloc, said the registrations took place on Monday. He did not give the name of the company or the countries where the interventions took place, in line with his regulations.
“The Commission fears that the inspected company may have violated the antitrust rules of the EU prohibiting cartels and restrictive business practices”he said in a statement.
“The inspected company may also have breached EU antitrust rules that prohibit abuses of a dominant position.”.
Companies that violate the antitrust rules of the EU they face fines of up to 10% of their worldwide turnover.
