Ukrainian children try to disconnect from the war through laughter… and a group of volunteers strives to make it so. in the village of Hrusivka, this group dresses up as a clown and gives them toys. The objective: color the shadows of one war raging in the east of the country.

One of the mothers told Alberto Sicilia, correspondent for laSexta Noticias in Ukraine, that her children “know what war is, but They don’t know what a normal life is… going to school, food, toys…”. Another mother defends that “the children are terrified by the bombings” and adds: “Normally, the Russians attack at night when the civilians are sleeping. Children wake up as if they were living in a nightmare” it states.

For a year they have been victims of violence, trauma, and destruction left behind by the invasion of Russian troops. The tug of war between the two countries is experienced a few kilometers from this town, on the front of Kharkiv. Alberto Sicilia has managed to reach Kupiansk, a city occupied by the Russians and later recovered by Ukrainian forces. “This town is a fundamental logistics front to supply the entire Donbas front,” reports the reporter.

And for this reason, the authorities have spent days evacuating civilians after increased shelling.
