More than 130 people arrested in operation in the European Union against child trafficking

At least 130 people have been arrested in the European Union (EU) during a operation that mobilized 22 countriesin addition to the agencies Frontex, Interpol and Europol, against human trafficking, which also allowed the identification of around 130 possible victims, many of them minors.

“Agents verified the identity of more than 11,130 minors, the most vulnerable group of people who are trafficked and exploited. Many are victims of sexual exploitation, forced begging, or different types of forced crime, including petty crime and drug trafficking. They also become victims of labor exploitation and domestic slavery,” Europol noted.

for now, European authorities have arrested more than 130 suspected criminalsalthough the operation also resulted in the identification of up to 60 new suspects of being part of the child trafficking network.

In addition, more than 100 new investigations related to this crime have been initiated and in total more than 130 potential victims of human trafficking have been identified, of which there are many minors.

During the days of the operation, the police of the participating countries carried out checks at 13,500 locations, more than 193,000 cars, some 970,000 people and more than 101,000 documents, which also made it possible to detect more than 220 forged documents used for human trafficking.

The operation mobilized, among others, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom. (YO)
