America’s top infectious disease official, Dr. Anthony Fauci, stated that it is possible that the COVID-19 be reduced next year to an endemic disease from the current great health crisis if the country increases vaccination rates.
Booster doses of COVID-19 vaccines are vital to get to that point, Fauci said during the Reuters Total Health conference, which takes place virtually from November 15-18.
“For me, if you want to be endemic, you have to keep the level of infection so low that it doesn’t have an impact on society, on your life, on your economy. People will still get infected. People may still be hospitalized, but the level would be so low that we don’t think about it all the time and it doesn’t influence what we do, ”Fauci said.
To get to that point, he said, it would take a lot more people getting vaccinated and receiving boosters.
If the United States makes reinforcements available to all, the country may be able to bring the virus under control by spring 2022, Fauci added.
Look at what other countries are doing now to adopt a push-pull campaign for virtually everyone. I think if we do that, and we do it seriously, by the spring we can have this under control, ”added Fauci.
