Rostislav Filippenko, Ukrainian-born Spanish mathematician, decided that he would not leave his country when the war broke out, more than a year ago. “I thought, how can I help? He has even received treatments for cancer patients. Getting hold of these medicines, in the middle of the war, is almost an impossible mission. In fact, many patients have had to interrupt their cancer treatments and her chemotherapy sessions. Some of them are stored in a cold room that Ros has set up in a old soviet bunker.
Raisa is one of hundreds of people who visit this makeshift pharmacy every day. She does not collect drugs for herself, but for her husband: “He is in the fourth phase of chemo.” If it wasn’t for Ross, confesses that he would have to invest two pensions to be able to pay them.
One of those in charge of casting is Sana, a pharmacist and volunteer, who laments that, although they try to reach everything, there are some medicines that do not have: “We want to help, but it doesn’t always come out,” he adds.
However, they can be happy. The NGO founded by Ros, Mission Kharkiv has managed to help more than 60,000 people maintain their treatments. He also collaborates with 31 hospitals in his country.
