Pope Francis considers the one in Ukraine as a new world war, the third that has broken out in just over a century. The Pope believes that armed conflicts serve economic interests, beginning with those of the arms industry.

In an interview with the Italian section of Swiss Public Television Radio (RTS) on the occasion of the ten years of his pontificate, Francis has pointed out that currently no one can deny that the world is facing a war of world order since “all the great powers are involved and the battlefield is Ukraine.”

“Think that in just over a hundred years there have been three world wars: 1914-1918, 1939-1945 and now this one, that it is a world war that has started little by little“. On weapons, the Pope has commented: “A technician told me that if weapons were not manufactured for a year, the problem of world hunger could be solved. It is the market that has created the war (…) Wars serve to test weapons.”

In this sense, he recalled the use in the war in Ukraine of new types of drones “that are being tested, new weapons are being tested.” “If other things were tried, in favor of human development, education or food, it would be fine, but the attraction to money is man’s worst enemy, the devil enters through the pocket”has added.

To conclude, he pointed out: “Jesus said that you cannot serve two masters. Or you serve God, and one can expect him to say the devil later, but he does not say the devil, heHe says that either you serve God or you serve money. It’s funny what Jesus says because he demonizes the misuse of money “.
