The BBC’s decision to fire Gary Lineker of the program “Match of the Day” that he himself presented has brought with him a wave of solidarity of his classmates and a massive boycott of its programming. The chain, for its part, maintains that the Criticism by English soccer legend of UK immigration policy violates the ban imposed on its journalists to give political opinions on social networks.

The BBC announced this Friday the decision to set aside the presenter of the football program Gary Lineker, who had presented it since 1999, after his controversial statements.

The former soccer player published some messages on the Twitter platform criticizing the UK’s immigration policy and considering the language used like that of Nazi Germany. As reported by the BBC, this goes against the recommendations given by the chain, which prohibits its journalists from giving political opinions in social networks and that obliges them to maintain impartiality in this respect.

In the past, Lineker himself had already been in trouble for his political views on social media. This time, on the other hand, his political vision of the United Kingdom’s immigration plan has not gone unnoticed by the British chain, which ensures that his recent activity violates company social media guidelines.

Just a few minutes after Gary Lineker’s goodbye, a large part of the protagonists of the “Match of the Day” program have decided to position themselves against the attitude taken by the chain. For this reason, ex-soccer players and collaborators of the program such as the legend Alan Shearer, Ian Wright or Micah Richards will not participate in the broadcast of this Saturday.

Besides, Premier League playersthe highest competition in English football, have joined the boycott to the chain and they will not have to grant interviews to the program, as confirmed by the English federation. Despite this, the program will continue without its greatest exponents.
