The Polish oil refinery Polski Koncern Naftowy (PKN) Orlen will demand compensation from the Russian side for the termination of supplies through the Druzhba pipeline. According to RBC, this was announced by the head of the concern, Daniel Obaitek, on the air of Radio Zet.
“The Russians stopped pumping oil to Poland <…>so now we are suing and making claims,” he said. At the same time, Obaitek did not name the amount of possible compensation, noting that he could not disclose the details of the contracts.
Russia’s stoppage of oil exports to Poland was reported at the end of February. Then Orlen said that only 10% of the fuel came from Russia, it could be replaced by supplies from other exporters. Transneft (Druzhba’s operating company) explained that oil was not pumped at the end of February due to the lack of additional payment.
Previously, Poland tried to impose sanctions against the Druzhba pipeline in order to obtain legal grounds for the early termination of existing contracts with Russia without penalties.
