Despite the fact that the COVID-19 pandemic began more than two years ago, and that there is a vaccine on the market, not all people choose to be exposed to it. In this context, the Vatican seeks to promote and highlight the importance of vaccination by launching a new currency.
The Vatican Philatelic and Numismatic Marketing Office has just launched a new series of coins, one of which promotes vaccination against COVID.
“The 20-euro silver coin, the work of Chira Principe, is dedicated to a current issue that is very much at the heart of Pope Francis: care to face the pandemic and the need to be vaccinated”, indicates the Vatican website.
The coin features a doctor, a nurse, and a young man about to receive the vaccine.
Vaccines began to be injected globally more than a year ago. However, not all countries have had access to them or to a significant number of doses. Among the poorest peoples is Africa, the most backward of the continents and a habitual magnet for plagues. In Africa, the proportion of the vaccinated population is very low, in many countries below 5%. (YO)
