Russia judged this Monday that the plan proposed last week by China to resolve the conflict in Ukraine”deserved attention”, but that the necessary conditions for a solution “peaceful“They are not together”for now”.
“We consider the plan of our Chinese friends with great attention (…) It is a long process. For now, we do not see the premises for this issue to take a peaceful path.”, declared to the press the spokesman of the Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov. “The special military operation (in Ukraine) continues”, he added.
On Friday, just one year after the start of the Russian offensive, China published a 12-point document calling on Moscow and kyiv for peace negotiations.
But if China seeks to impose itself as a mediator in this conflict, its position as an ally of Russia disqualifies it in the eyes of the West, which supports Ukraine.
Russia and Ukraine have so far not shown any serious willingness to start negotiations, and have reacted prudently to the Asian giant’s proposal.
On the other hand, the Kremlin described this Monday as “absurd” the new package of sanctions imposed by the European Union (EU) on Russia on Friday, and which targets 121 individuals and entities.
“All this is absurd. We see that they place anyone under sanctions (…), just to make new lists”, declared peskovwho added that these measures were not going to “affect” to the sanctioned persons.
For the Russian Foreign Ministry, the sanctions are “futile and reckless attempts” to “undermine our industrial system and our financial potential.”
“We prepare retaliatory measures (…) that will continue to be elaborated under the principle of strict reciprocity and the inevitability of punishment“, he claimed Maria Zakharovaspokesman for Russian diplomacy, in a statement.
