In Italy, the search continues for more victims of the ship that sank early Sunday off the coast of Calabria. As a result, at least 62 people, including several children, have died, and there are 81 survivors. The ship was carrying 200 migrants, so the rescue services are still looking for the rest.

19 people remain admitted to the hospital, half of them minors. Most are Somalis, Afghans and Pakistanis fleeing wars and conflicts in the direction of Europe.

Some of the bodies, as well as the pieces of wood from the boat, were found on a beach in the Crotone provincewhich immediately led the rescue teams to know the magnitude of the incident.

According to the first information, everything points to the fact that the boat broke in two, probably after hitting a rock due to the swell off the coast of Steccato di Cutro, a city in the province of Crotone.

At least three people, including a Turkish citizen who was on the boat, have been arrested as suspected members of the trafficking group of people who organized the trip of the boat from Turkey, despite the adverse weather conditions, according to local media.

Italian Prime Minister, Georgia Melonihas expressed regret over the tragedy and has announced measures to combat illegal migration.

According to data from Italian NGOs, so far this year more than 12,000 migrants have arrived in Italy and more than 20,000 have died or disappeared in Mediterranean waters since 2014.
