The US will announce this Friday new sanctions against Russia

USA will announce this Friday, the day that marks the first anniversary of the war in Ukrainenew sanctions against Russiastressed the White House spokeswoman, Karine Jean-Pierre.

These sanctions will be directed against key sectors that generate income for the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, and will also target “more Russian banks”the defense and technology industry and other actors in third countries that are “trying to evade sanctions.”

The announcement will be announced in the framework of the telematics summit that the G7 leaders will hold this Friday, in which the group of most industrialized countries hopes to emphasize their support for Ukraine and their intention to continue applying sanctions on Russia.

It is expected that the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelensky, will also participate in this meeting.

“They will talk about how we can continue to support Ukraine and increase the pressure on Russia and all those who have allowed the aggression,” Jean-Pierre pointed out in his daily press conference.

The United States will also present a new humanitarian aid package for Ukraine, aimed among other things at protecting Ukrainians from invasion and making it easier for the Ukrainian government to provide the population with basic services such as electricity and heating.

The deputy administrator of the US Agency for International Development (USAID), Isobel Coleman, had advanced shortly before Jean-Pierre’s appearance that the new package will contain aid related to the energy sector.

This Thursday, the G7 economy and finance ministers approved a financial aid package for Ukraine of 39,000 million dollars for 2023, compared to 19,800 million last year, so that it can assume its payments.

Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States, components of the G7 and which accumulate more than half of the world’s wealth, thus show their “unwavering support for Ukraine”, said the Japanese holder of that portfolio, Shunichi Suzuki, after their meeting in the Indian city of Bangalore.

Jean-Pierre stressed that “the G7 has become an anchor” in response “strong and united Russia”while indicating that the allies want to make sure that Ukraine has “what you need” to win on the battlefield.
