The US assures that China has supported Russia since the beginning of the war

Despite its appearance as a neutral country, China has been supporting Russia since the beginning of the war against Ukraineassured this Thursday the spokesman for the US State Department, Ned Price.

“China has provided diplomatic support, it has provided political support, it has provided economic support, it has echoed and parroted Russia’s propaganda, its lies, its distortions, its falsehoods, in an effort to protect Russia.”the official pointed out in a press conference.

Price stated that he does not believe that the Asian giant “has stayed away” of the conflict, which is one year old this Friday, but rather “has been providing significant support to Russia.”

“Over the course of this last year, they have tried to profess to the world this veneer of neutrality”but, he added, “in international law, no responsible country can be neutral” in a conflict like this.

“Our concern, of course, would be if China went a step further to provide lethal assistance to Russia. This is not something we’ve seen yet, but at the same time, we don’t think he’s taken it off the table, so we remain prepared to sanction any entity or company in any country in the world.” pointed.

Price thus agreed with the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, who warned China on Monday that if it delivers weapons to Russia it will have “a real problem in their relations with many other countries, not just the United States.”

“We are concerned that China is considering supporting Russia’s war effort in Ukraine with lethal aid, something we are watching very, very closely.”assured the head of US diplomacy.

Last weekend the allies of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) formally warned at the Munich Security Conference, through a letter, to Wang Yi, China’s top foreign policy official.

The letter was delivered to him by various Western officials, including Blinken himself.

Last Tuesday, Wang held a meeting in Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who stressed that “cooperation in the international arena between the People’s Republic of China and the Russian Federation (…) is of great importance for the stability of the international situation”.
