a student of 16 years has fatally stabbed his 50-year-old Spanish teacher this Wednesday at the Santo Tomás de Aquino school in Saint Jean de Luz, in the French Basque Country, as indicated by the Government.
The events took place shortly before 10:00 a.m. inside the private Catholic teaching establishment, according to judicial sources. The teacher received first aid at the scene but has not survived to the injuries sustained.
The minor was immediately arrested and is in the Gendarmerie premises. According to the BFMTV channel, the young man suffered psychiatric problems and assured that he heard voices before stabbing the teacher. The minor had no criminal record.
The government spokesman, Olivier Veran, has sent a message of support to “the entire educational community” and confirmed that the Minister of Education, Pape Ndiaye, is heading to the school, which he plans to arrive in the next few hours.
