Maduro is committed to a new dynamic of commercial expansion with Colombia

The president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduroopted this Thursday for a new commercial dynamic with Colombia that allows the expansion of operations, as a result of some adjustments in a binational agreement that he endorsed at the border together with his counterpart from the Andean country, Gustavo Petro.

Signing this agreement, he said, “lays the foundations for a new dynamic of trade expansion”since it updates tariffs, the catalog of products to be exchanged and establishes new priorities adjusted to the current reality of Venezuela, “a country that insists on producing, growing, building a post-oil model”.

In an act held on the Atanasio Girardot International Bridge -known as Tienditas-, which unites the two nations, Maduro admitted that although commercial exchange has not reached the aspired dimension, transactions “Yes, they are setting a good rhythm, a good dynamic.”

“Our relations have been taking on a new dynamic of political, diplomatic dialogues (…) a new economic, commercial, population dynamic”continued the president after recalling the reestablishment of diplomatic relations with Colombia since last August -after almost four broken years-, when Petro came to power.

Since then, he considered, both governments have given the “necessary” and “inevitable” steps that have revived binational trade, such as the reopening of the border for the passage of vehicles and merchandise, at the end of September, as well as the air reconnection.

The protocol signed by the two presidents aims to reach the goal of 1.8 billion dollars in commercial operations this year, which, if achieved, would exceed double the estimated figure for the end of 2022 of 800 million dollars, a amount that has not been officially confirmed by either of the two countries.
