IMSS 2023 Pension: How many weeks do I have to have contributed to request this money?

The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) has published how many weeks of contributions are required so that this 2023, adults who are 60 years old can request the unemployment pension before the dependency.

According to the reform of the Social Security Law and the Retirement Savings Systems Law, the contribution weeks to request the pension will increase annually, twenty-five weeks, until reaching 1,000 in the year 2031.

How many weeks of contributions do I need to request the pension?

People who wish to process the Unemployment pension in Advanced Age or Old Age for this year must comply with 800 weeks of contributions at the time of making the request.

The Social Security Law provides for two types of regimes through which the insured can retire, each one determines the conditions that must be met for the granting of a pension.

• 1973 regime: If you started trading before July 1, 1997.
• 1997 regime: If you started quoting from July 1, 1997.

Requirements to request my pension

However, the requirements will vary depending on the moment in which you started working and contributing to the IMSS:

According to the 1973 regime

• Be 60 years of age at the time of submitting the application for retirement pension at an advanced age and 65 years of age for the old-age pension.
• Cause withdrawal from the Mandatory Regime of the Social Security Law.
• Being deprived of paid work.
• Have registered under the Social Security Law in force until June 30, 1997.
• Have registered with the IMSS a minimum of 500 weeks of contribution.
• Be in force in their rights before the IMSS or within the period of conservation of rights provided by the Law.

According to the 1997 regime

• Be 60 years of age at the time of submitting the application for retirement pension at an advanced age and 65 years of age for the old-age pension.
• Cause withdrawal from the Mandatory Regime of the Social Security Law.
• Being deprived of paid work.
• Have a minimum of 1,000 weeks of contributions to the IMSS.

The Mexican Government details that if the insured does not meet 1,000 weeks of contributions and is 60 years old, they can withdraw the balance of their individual account in a single batch or continue contributing until the weeks necessary for the granting of the pension are covered.
