Why talking about UFOs does not mean referring to aliens

Last weekend, at least three countries in the world reported the detection of several unidentified flying objects (UFOs).

Canada and the United States notified the demolition of one of the objects with a missile and was in the process of recovering it, this Sunday, on the other hand, China was the one with the report.

Last Saturday, the United States reported the downing of a balloon from the Asian country off the coast of South Carolina. China insisted that the balloon was conducting meteorological research.

What is known about the unidentified objects reported in recent days

The mention of phenomena called UFOs cause the idea of an object that comes from outer space to appear in the imagination of people, but many times the explanation is found within the planet.

The term UFO was replaced in the official language of the United States government by ‘UAP’ (unidentified aerial phenomenon/unidentified aerial phenomena).

With these acronyms not only refers to objects but to atmospheric phenomena in general. According to José Franco, a researcher at the Institute of Astronomy of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), “there are a huge number of atmospheric phenomena that are not solid objects, it may even be the case that these supposed images are only a ‘ghost’ ‘, a reflection, within the systems that obtain the image. This is the reason why it was decided to change the name.”

The object shot down by the United States on Saturday in Canada was cylindrical in shape and smaller than the Chinese globe. Defense Minister Anita Anand declined to speculate whether he was of Chinese origin.

US Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer, who was briefed by the Biden administration following the latest incident, said on Sunday that the latter two objects were likely balloons, “but much smaller than the first,” and that both were flying at an altitude of 12,200 meters.

US officials described the two new objects as the size of a Volkswagen Beetle.

Analysts say U.S. and Canadian intelligence is constantly receiving large amounts of raw data and generally discarding some to focus on the threat of incoming missiles, not slow-moving objects like balloons.

“Now of course we are tracking them. So I think we’ll probably find more stuff,” Jim Himes, the top Democratic representative on the House Intelligence Committee, told NBC.

Officials said three balloons are now known to have briefly flown over the United States during the Trump administration, undetected at the time, and one under Joe Biden’s own administration.

On Saturday, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) sent fighter jets to investigate a “radar anomaly” over Montana, but found no related objects. (YO)
