A man spends 43 years in prison for a murder, despite no evidence to implicate him

Kevin Strickland has been behind bars for 43 years, in a United States prison, for a murder that, he says, he never committed. Now, a change in legislation has allowed the Prosecutor’s Office, convinced of his innocence, to reopen the case.

The events for which he was arrested occurred in 1979 in Missouri. He was arrested as a suspect in a triple homicide in a home. Nevertheless, he has always defended his innocence.

During the investigation, they arrested two men who admitted their guilt and were sentenced to only ten years in prison. They both denied that Kevin was involved., but this also did not serve to free him from jail.

The key was in the testimony of a woman who came out of the shooting alive. This identified Kevin as the third culprit but years later assured that it was induced by the Police. Finally, an all-white popular jury sentenced him to life imprisonment.

The only witness to the event struggled to retract her accusation for decades, but ended up dying in 2015 with nothing to do with it. Although, now his testimony is key and It has served to propose an annulment of the case with the new legislation.

Now, his family only hopes he will be released for Thanksgiving, later this month. “We have been apart for too long,” said one of his brothers.
