This announcement comes a day after the United States shot down a high-flying object over Alaska, a White House spokesman said Friday, without giving details about the object’s nature or origin.

This “object,” which he said was “the size of a small car” and was flying at an altitude of about 40,000 feet, posed “a threat to the safety of air traffic,” said John Kirby, a spokesman for the National Security Council. from the White House.

“We don’t know who it belongs to, whether it’s a State or a company. We don’t understand the purpose,” he added.

Biden gave the order to destroy it “this morning” (Friday), and it was shot down in the early afternoon (Washington time), he said.

Asked by journalists at the White House, Biden stated that it was “a success.”
