Spain eliminates the obligation to wear a mask on public transport

The Spanish Government announced this Tuesday that as of Wednesday It will no longer be mandatory to wear a mask on public transportone of the last sanitary restrictions due to COVID that were still in force in this country.

“We have approved an amendment to the Royal Decree by virtue of which” the “ is removedcompulsory use on public transport” of the masks, indicated the Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, at a press conference after a council of ministers.

The entry into force will be tomorrow, February 8, with its publication in the Official State Gazette”, added Darias, who was pleased that Spain is “at a time of enormous stability in terms of the epidemiological situation” due to the pandemic.

As of Wednesday, the obligation to wear a mask will be restricted to hospitals, health centers and nursing homes.

After two years in force, Spain lifted the obligation to wear masks indoors in April 2022, with the exception of public transport and health facilities.

The use of the mask was always highly respected in this country, where there was no major controversy regarding vaccination either.

Spain was hit hard by the first wave of the COVID pandemicin the spring of 2020, when the Government decreed one of the strictest confinements in the world.

This country was one of the few in the world to reestablish at the end of 2021, for a few weeks, the obligation to wear a mask outdoors to deal with the rebound in infections by the omicron variant. (YO)
