The treaty that controls two of the largest countries in nuclear potential, USA Y Russia, acted as a pillar in the control of nuclear weapons. However, both countries claim that the other fails to comply with the rules of the agreement.

According to Russia, the United States “destroyed the legal framework for arms control and security” that supported the New START treaty.
The Russian ambassador in Washington, Anatoli Antonov, criticized for his part the US actions that “undermine the key objective of the agreement: to maintain the balance of the strategic offensive weapons of the parties.”
Russia warns of ‘global catastrophe’ if West sends more weapons to Ukraine
Russia “warned that (nuclear) arms control cannot be isolated from geopolitical reality. Under the current circumstances, we believe it is unjustified, untimely, and inappropriate to invite the US military to our strategic facilities.Antonov added.
This statement comes after Washington accused Russia of not allowing inspection of its facilities.
“Russia’s refusal to facilitate inspection activities prevents the United States from exercising important treaty rights and threatens the viability of US-Russian nuclear arms control,” a State Department spokesperson said in emailed comments.
In addition, Russia told the United States that the treaty could expire in 2026 without a replacement because, in his opinion, Washington was trying to inflict a “strategic defeat” on Moscow in the Ukraine.
Relations between the two nuclear powers are at their lowest level since the start of the Russian military offensive in Ukraine. (YO)
