These are the new designs of the green card and the work permit in the United States to avoid fraud

The United States government reported that as of this Monday the new Permanent Resident Cards or Green Cards and Employment Authorization Cards for immigrants present a new design to improve security and prevent fraud.

According to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS), the changes include new illustrations and high-security holographic images on both sides of the cards, among other modifications.

USCIS seeks “a proactive approach against the threat of document tampering, forgery, and fraud,” USCIS Director Ur M. Jaddou said in a statement today.

New Green Cards for residence and employment in the United States

The United States government issued green cards between 1979 and August 1989 without expiration. These cards are still valid. The introduction of the new designs does not mean that currently issued cards are no longer valid.

Current cards remain valid until their expiration date (unless otherwise indicated, such as through an automatic extension of a Green Card or EAD as indicated on a Form I-797, Notice of Action, or in a notice of the Federal Register).

Due to delays in processing due to the pandemic, USCIS has extended the validity of permanent resident cards by two years.

The agency also explained that some cards issued after today “may still show the existing design format” since USCIS will use all of its supplies until they run out.

The agency also called on holders of permanent residences without an expiration date to consider applying for a replacement card to prevent fraud or tampering if the card is lost or stolen.
