A man stabbed three people in the vicinity of the European Commission

The Belgian police have reduced an individual in the vicinity of the headquarters of the Commission and the Council of the European Union after seriously injuring one person and slightly injuring two others in a knife attack. The attack took place at around 6:00 p.m. local time at the Schuman metro station in Brussels, located between the headquarters of the European Commission and the headquarters of the EU Council, where a meeting of agriculture ministers from the European Union.

The attacker stabbed a first victim in a subway car and then ran out and tried to attack other people in the station until several armed police officers were able to subdue him, according to videos posted by witnesses on social networks. Later, he was able to be detained by the police, although the authorities temporarily blocked the exit of the EU Council building that overlooks the area where the health services were treating the wounded man.

The first indications lead one to think that it is not a terrorist act, according to what sources from the Prosecutor’s Office have indicated to the public radio and television RTBF. The chain has added that the security forces had the suspect on file, a 30 year old manbut not for matters related to terrorism or extremism.

The suspect, armed with a knife and very agitated according to witnesses, slightly injured two people and seriously injured a thirdwhose life is in danger, before a group of armed policemen could subdue him.
