Ford recalled about 462,000 vehicles equipped with a 360-degree vision camera Friday for a problem that can cause images to not appear on the screen, increasing the chances of accidents.
Ford said in documents filed with the US National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) that the defect affects the 2020-2023 Ford Explorer, 2020-2023 Lincoln Aviator and 2020-2022 Lincoln Corsair models.
Of the total number of vehicles affected by the recall, 382,759 are in the United States.
The 360-degree camera offers a panoramic view of the vehicle’s surroundings and is considered safety equipment.
Ford also told NHTSA that it received information from 17″minor accidents” related to the defect although no individual was injured.
The car company linked the problem to a version of the software that operates the camera system.
To fix the defect, Ford dealers will update the camera image processing module software free of charge in affected vehicles.
