A fire caused at the East Station in Paris on Tuesday morning paralyzed the circulation of all trains, which are used daily by 500,000 passengers.
The “malicious act”, as the National Railway Society described it in a statement, occurred in the station power installation, in Vaires sur Marne, on the outskirts of Paris, and prevented rail service from 5:00 a.m.
The fire forced the complete interruption of high-speed, regional and suburban train traffic. The Minister of Transport, Clément Beaune, confirmed in an interview with the radio station France Info that it is “a malicious act”.
According to Beaune, it is not yet known who is behind the fire or why, but that these acts must “to be severely penalized”.
Traffic will be interrupted all day, the SNF announced. (YO)
