Hungary, however, gave in. There is a political green light for arming Ukraine and another military tranche

Last week they blocked the seventh tranche of the European Peace Fund. K However, everything seems to indicate that Hungary finally gave up its veto.

However, Hungary will abstain from the veto

Polish Radio reports that only an agreement has been reached so far, but it opens the way to final approval and there should be no surprises. The more so that the only country that has been blocking the approval of the decision since last week was Hungary.

At a closed-door meeting on Monday, the Hungarian minister said that although Hungary does not like the European Peace Fund, it will not block its extension. “The pressure makes sense,” one EU official said.

From the moment Hungary objected, strong pressure was exerted on the authorities in Budapest. They were severely criticized, especially from Poland and the Baltic states.

Fund for rearming Ukraine with a green light

The fund for additional equipment was launched in March last year and was increased every few weeks by half a billion euros. Now the pool of money is to be increased for the seventh time, to 3 billion 600 million euros. EU countries that are arming Ukraine can apply for reimbursement from this fund of expenses for the purchase of equipment, as well as transport costs.

According to the findings of the Polish Radio correspondent Beata Płomecka, since March last year, Poland has sent invoices for over EUR 2 billion, 200 million, the most of all EU countries. So far, however, it has received less than 30 million returns.

Officially, the decision to accept the fund is to be announced by the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, after the meeting. The procedures are to be finalized in the coming days.

The EU has approved a new tranche of military aid

In addition to the agreement on funds for armament, the European Union approved on Monday a new tranche of military aid to Ukraine in the amount of EUR 500 million and EUR 45 million for the training of Ukrainian soldiers in the EU, the AFP news agency reported, citing diplomatic sources, which it quotes.
