Fumio Kishida plans to visit Ukraine in February
Japan’s Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida, plans to visit Ukraine next month to meet with that country’s President, Volodimir Zelenski, according to the Japanese newspaper Yomiuri today. The objective of the trip would be to stage its support for Ukraine during the Russian invasion, which will be one of the central points of discussion at the G7 leaders’ summit that Japan will host next May, government sources told the aforementioned media. Tokyo, which this year holds the rotating presidency of the Group of Seven (which, in addition to Japan, includes the United States, France, Germany, Canada, Italy and the United Kingdom), hopes that a joint declaration will come out of the summit of leaders condemning the Russian aggression towards the neighboring country. If his visit is confirmed, Kishida would travel to Ukraine through the Polish border. (EFE)
