Russia will send observers to elections in Venezuela

This was announced on Monday by the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Lavrov.

Russia will send its observers to the municipal and regional elections to be held in Venezuela on November 21, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced on Monday.

“We are ready to provide all the necessary assistance for your organization to our (Venezuelan) friends and we will send our observers,” Lavrov said at a press conference with his Venezuelan counterpart, Felix Plasencia.

Lavrov added that the respective invitations were also sent to the European Union (EU) and the UN.

“We hope they are accepted,” he said.

Lavrov highlighted the “close contacts” between Moscow and Caracas across the board and announced new scholarships for Venezuelan students in Russia.

He also criticized the unilateral sanctions imposed against Venezuela and advocated continuing to coordinate approaches with Caracas on different international platforms. (I)
