White House refuses to provide details on classified Biden documents

The White House He did not want to give new details on Tuesday about the classified documents that have been found in recent weeks in an office and at the home of the president of USA, Joe Bidenas there is an open investigation.

“We are providing the public with information on this matter as appropriate. But of course we are limited in what we can say given the ongoing DOJ review.” said the spokesman for the White House legal office, Ian Sams, in a conversation with a group of journalists.

Since last Thursday, the investigation has been in the hands of a special prosecutor, the conservative lawyer Robert Hur, who was appointed by the US Attorney General, Merrick Garland.

Despite persistent questions from the press about the contents of the documents found on several occasions since last November and about whether more searches are taking place, Sams limited himself to referring the journalists to the Justice Department.

“We understand that there is a tension between, you know, protecting and safeguarding the ongoing investigation and providing an adequate level of public information to all of you.”he pointed.

Sams suggested that they do not know the content of the documents because “as soon as these records were identified, they were immediately turned over to the proper authorities”.

“In terms of content, in terms of numbers, in terms of details related to the materials themselves, we just can’t address that because these have been turned over to the proper authorities,” insisted.

Sams thus offered no news about a case that is bound to complicate the last two years of Biden’s term and that was uncovered on Monday of last week, despite the fact that the first findings in the president’s office at the Penn Center think tank They went at the beginning of November, while members of his team were organizing and cleaning the room.

White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre also evaded journalists’ questions on Tuesday in her daily press conference.

“One of the things that we have said during the last two years (…) is that we are not going to comment on legal matters”he assured before returning to defend the work of the US administration, which is “fully cooperating” with the Department of Justice in its investigation.

The spokeswoman also avoided answering a question about whether last Friday, when asked if new documents had been discovered, Jean-Pierre already knew about the appearance of new files, revealed this weekend.

In total, the White House has recognized on three occasions the appearance of new classified documents from the time in which Biden was vice president (2009-2017), the last time last Saturday.

Regarding the reason for the delay in making this case public, Sams limited himself to insisting on the official discourse: “The president is committed to doing what is responsible and handling this appropriately. His team acted correctly in disclosing information to the proper authorities and is fully cooperating.” stressed.

Biden has only spoken twice about this case. The last time last Thursday, when he trusted his favorable resolution: “Everything will be cleared up, I’m sure”, pointed.

He also did not want to talk about the subject today, despite being overwhelmed with questions by the press at the beginning of his meeting with the Dutch Prime Minister, Mark Rutte.

On the call, Sams criticized the position the Republican Party is taking. In his opinion, they are “making theater” and “feigning indignation”despite the fact that they “defended the actions of former president” Donald Trump, who is also being investigated for accumulating classified documents at his residence in Mar-a-Lago (Florida), discovered after an FBI raid.
