British police have said a 42-year-old passenger found in a moving car in Lancashire has been penalized.
The implicated is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, who appeared Thursday without a seat belt in a vehicle which was described as “an error of judgment” for which he apologized, according to Downing Street.
Who is Rishi Sunak? for the first time the prime minister of the United Kingdom has more money than royalty and a high-level professional profile
In the video Sunak mentioned his territorial rebalancing policy. Lancashire Police had already announced that they would investigate the incident, so a conditional offer of a fixed sentence was sent.
Not wearing a seatbelt can carry a penalty including a fine of up to £500 ($619) if the case goes to court.
A Downing Street spokesman said Sunak “fully accepts that this was a mistake and apologizes.” “The prime minister thinks everyone should wear a seatbelt,” the spokesman added.
According to the BBCSunak would have accepted the payment of the fine
It is the second sanction that Sunak has received while he is part of the government, since in 2020 he was fined along with Boris Johnson and his wife for violating the COVID-19 lockdown rules.
In the UK it is mandatory to wear a seatbelt in vehicles that do have one. The law applies to those over 14 years of age, although it contemplates exceptions such as medical reasons or if they are police vehicles, firefighters or other entities. (YO)
