A total of 1,957 bankers in the European Union (EU) earned more than one million euros (US$1.08 million) in 2021, a record, according to data released Thursday by the European Banking Authority (EBA).
In the year 2021 there was “a significant increase in the number of people working for banks and European investment companies that had a remuneration of more than one million euros”, confirmed the EBA, which has made this list since 2010.
Compared to 1,383 in 2020, the increase is 41.5%.
This increase islinked to the good general results of companies, particularly in investment banking”, noted the EBA.
It is also explained by some relocation from London to the EU after Brexit.
The year 2021 was characterized by a strong recovery in activity after 2020 penalized by the pandemic and lockdowns.
