Nicaragua celebrates this Sunday an election that the president, Daniel OrtegaHe wants to dress as democratic and in which he intends to be elected for a fourth term. The opposition, on the other hand, calls them a “farce” and has called for abstention. Seven of the country’s presidential candidates have been jailed in the previous months.
There is repression in all corners of the country, enforced disappearances and relentless persecution towards activists and politicians. Many think that since April 2018 Daniel Ortega permanently removed his mask, revealing his true face.

The images of university students in Nicaragua trapped like animals in a crossfire led by the government of Daniel Ortega shook the world. Since then 325 young people have died murdered and those arrested number in the hundreds. All with a single objective, to stay in power.
Ortega still has many followers and a family that controls the main communication and economic media. Neither the sanctions of the United States nor the almost unanimous condemnation of the international community, including Spain, have achieved, for the moment, silence a man whose lust for power is far removed from the health of his people.
