“People were following orders and guidelines that Bolsonaro gave for a long time,” says Lula da Silva after assaulting official buildings

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva once again lashed out at former President Jair Bolsonaro after the violent riots and attempted coup on January 8.

This Wednesday Lula referred to the events, first in the middle of a ceremony with trade unionists at the Planalto Palace. There the current president said that he did not know “if the former president ordered (to commit the attacks), what I know is that he is to blame because he spent four years inciting the people to have hatred.”

Despite not mentioning it, Lula pointed out that Bolsonaro had encouraged the attacks through his speech during the last three years. This despite the fact that he has denied any connection to the violent events.

On January 8, thousands of protesters stormed the buildings of the Presidency (Palacio de Planalto), the Congress and the Supreme Court, leaving more than 2,000 people in detention, although several have already been released.

In an interview with the network GloboNews, the president criticized the intelligence services that did not respond adequately to prevent the event and that this marked the beginning of a coup d’état. “My intelligence did not exist.”

In the same way, he said that he thought that the protesters were following orders that Bolsonaro had given a long time ago.

“I was left with the impression that it was the beginning of a coup,” said the president.

On Monday, the Prosecutor’s Office filed charges against 39 people suspected of participating in the excesses before the Supreme Court.

The personnel separated this Wednesday were part of the Institutional Security Cabinet, responsible for assisting the president in national security and defense policy tasks, as published in the Official Gazette of the Union.

Lula shared his reservations about some of them after the invasion of the headquarters of the three public powers in Brasilia. (YO)
