A court in Iran has sentenced to seven and a half years in prison to a man who beheaded his wife, a minorY later walked in public with his head severed in February 2022.
The spokesman for the Iranian judicial apparatus, Masud Setayeshi, has stated that “the parents of the deceased have forgiven” the person responsible of the murder, as reported by the Iranian news agency Mehr.
The case unleashed a wave of criticism in the country after a video was released showing the man walking around with the head of his victim, 17-year-old Mona Heidari. Iranian media then indicated that she had been married at the age of 12 and that she had a 3-year-old son at the time of her death.
They also pointed out that the event it was an ‘honor killing’‘ as the woman had fled to Turkey before her father and husband transferred her back to Iran. after the murder the husband’s brother was also arrestedwho would have also been implicated in the crime.
