He jumped fences and ran through the forest while being chased by dogs until he crossed the border. That’s how Andrey Medvedeva managed to desert from Wagner mercenary groupas he himself has recounted now.
“I turned around and saw people with flashlights running after me. I heard two shots and the bullets grazed me“, he recounted. In the distance, he saw house lights on and crossed a frozen lake to get to them. Already on Norwegian soil, he was arrested.
Medvedev, who has fought in Ukraine, assures that he decided to flee after witnessing the mistreatment and murder of those who wanted to leave the group of Russian mercenaries. “When the prisoners arrived, strange things happened. Wagner officers killed many of them,” he recounted. According to his testimony, they were shot in training and killed in cold blood anyone who tried to flee.
“I I risked being captured, killed or something even worse,” he assured. Medvedev, who claims to fear for his life, now hopes to receive political asylum in Norway.
