Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva appointed Tarciana Medeiros as president of Banco do Brasil, the country’s largest public financial institution, making her the first woman to lead the institution in its 214-year history.
The appointment of medeirostrained in business administration and an employee of Banco do Brasil for 22 years, was formalized in a decree signed by Lula and published this Monday in the Official Gazette.
He will take office this Monday in a ceremony in which the Brazilian head of state, who took office on January 1, plans to participate.
“Today I am participating in the inauguration of Tarciana Medeiros as president of Banco do Brasil, the first woman to hold the position in 214 years. I wish you a good job running this bank, which is so important to our economy.”, stated the progressive leader on his social networks.
Medeiros, 44, will replace Fausto de Andrade, also a career bank official and who has served as its president since April 2021, when he was appointed by then-president Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2022).
With a postgraduate degree in Administration, Business and Marketing and another in Leadership, Innovation and Management, medeiros Since 2021, she held the position of executive manager in the Directory of Clients of Individuals and Micro and Small Companies of Banco do Brasil.
The financial entity obtained in the first nine months of 2022 a net profit of 22,384 million reais (today about US$ 4,400 million), 56% more compared to the same period of the previous year.
