The Chinese government will suspend the visa waiver for South Korean and Japanese citizens in transit, in retaliation for the sanitary measures imposed on travelers from China by the increase in covid-19 cases.

South Korea and Japan reformed their travel conditions for people from China, implementing restrictions that the country considers “discriminatory.”
The reasons why several countries are concerned about the outbreak of COVID-19 in China
According to a statement from the Chinese administration in charge of immigration, the visa waiver for South Korean and Japanese citizens is “in response to recent discriminatory entry restrictions imposed by some countries on Chinese citizens.”
“The national immigration authorities suspended, with immediate effect, the issuance of visas to Korean and Japanese citizens and the visa waiver policy for transit entries,” the statement detailed.
Citizens of many countries can normally enjoy visa-free transit of up to 72 hours through China if they can show that they are expecting travel to a third country. The stay can last up to 144 hours in some cities and provinces.
This measure disappeared for a while, as people entering China were required to undergo a mandatory quarantine, but it was lifted on Sunday. (YO)
