Politicians’ criticisms of the “extravagant” expenses were not long in coming especially because during his government the far-right leader, whose main electoral banner was always the fight against corruption, criticized Lula’s alleged abuses in the use of corporate cards of the Presidency.

“In a country where half the population lives in food insecurity, Bolsonaro felt at ease spending millions with his corporate card on luxury hotels and sweets at the bakery”affirmed the deputy André Janones on Twitter.

The president of the pro-government Workers’ Party (PT), Gleisi Hoffmann, affirmed that the lifting of secrecy made it possible to know the “wasteful and strange” expenses of the former president, including 10 accounts of 9,000 reais (about 1,730 dollars) in 10 days in a row, in the same fast food place.

“Bolsonaro spent fortunes on a single hotel. With the amount he spent on that hotel, he could have paid for his lodging for eight years in a row”, tosigned the elected deputy Guilherme Boulos, leader of the leftist Socialism and Freedom Party (PSOL).

Boulos affirmed that the former president who called himself a “plain manIt turned out to be the “biggest vagrant and spendthrift in the country.”
