On January 6, 2021, the United States was experiencing one of the darkest episodes in its history. The world showed that the democracy of that country was vulnerable.
After finishing a rally for Republican Donald Trump, who was seeking re-election but had lost the election to Democrat Joe Biden, a mob of supporters accepted his request and went to the Capitol, which was preparing to make the election results official.
Hundreds of supporters gathered outside the building in Washington and around 1:00 p.m. they began to attack the security barriers and demolished them, for which reason the intervention of riot personnel was necessary.

The then Vice President Mike Pence was in the building to certify the results and the protesters launched slogans against him.
More than an hour later, the mob managed to break into the building, breaking the windows and beginning to walk the corridors. Immediately the images went around the world and people met a man with a bare chest and a fur headdress with horns, his name was Jacob Chansley.
Lawmakers had to be evacuated and Trump supporters inside Nancy Pelosi’s office are also remembered.
In the next few minutes, the demonstrators stormed the Senate until around 3:30 p.m. they began to be withdrawn. Finally, Trump made the decision to send the National Guard after not having done so at the beginning of the situation. At least five deaths left the day of violence.

After two years, the search is still underway for at least 350 participants and the suspect of planting a bomb near Congress the day before. The Secretary of Justice, Merrick Garland, indicated that they have prosecuted more than 950 people
“Our work is not done” and “we remain determined to prosecute all those responsible for the assault on our democracy,” he added.
More than a third of those detained have already been tried on charges ranging from simple “trespassing” to “sedition,” while 192 received prison terms, according to a separate statement from the Washington federal prosecutor, who is overseeing this investigation.
