Former Trump Organization Chief Financial Officer Sentenced to 5 Months in Jail

The one who was for many years financial director of the Trump Organization, Allen Weisselberghas been sentenced this Tuesday to five months in prison by the Supreme Court of the state of NYa light sentence as a result of his pact with the Prosecutor’s Office, according to various local media today.

The five months of imprisonment in the prison of Rikers Island -known for its difficult conditions- could stay in just one hundred days of effective compliance if Weisselberg, 75, demonstrates good behavior, notes the New York Times.

Weisselberg already pleaded guilty in August to fifteen charges of tax fraud, after confirming the existence of a tax evasion system and specifying that it benefited both him and the company, but insisted that he acted in his own interest.

In his statements, he acknowledged that between 2005 and 2021 he omitted to declare 1.76 million dollars of benefits to the tax authorities, benefits that resulted in an apartment in Manhattan, several Mercedes cars, luxury furniture and even school fees for his grandchildren, according to the State Attorney’s Office.

The former financial director will also have to pay the state of New York 2 million dollars for taxes owed, fines and interest, and after his time in prison he will spend five more years on supervised release (probation).

Following today’s sentencing, two Trump Organization entities will likely be sentenced in a separate sentence next Friday, with a maximum penalty of $1.6 million, but Donald Trump himself is not on trial in this case.

The former president’s lawyers have described this trial, like the others opened against him and his organization, as “politically motivated” for a kind of hunt – which he calls a witch hunt – against him and his family.

On the other hand, the Justice decided this Tuesday to reject a request by Trump and his three eldest children to dismiss the case brought by the state attorney general, Letitia James, for alleged fraudulent practices in the Trump Organization to obtain advantages in loans and taxes, in a different case than the court today.
