This Wednesday, the Vietnamese authorities decided to declare dead the 10-year-old boy who has been trapped at the bottom of a construction hole for four days.
Ly Hao Nam fell into a 35-meter-deep hole on December 31 while looking for scrap metal.
Doan Tan Buu, deputy head of the province, said on Wednesday that the boy had died. “He has been trapped in a very deep hollow pillar, with multiple injuries and without enough oxygen for a long time,” he told reporters.
“We gave priority to his rescue, but the conditions make it impossible for him to have survived,” he added.
Buu said the announcement of the boy’s death was made after consulting with medical experts.
Rescue teams are determined to get his body to the surface as soon as possible to bury it, but Buu admitted that this is a “very difficult task.” (YO)
