Joe Biden Pressures Democrats to Pass Two Bills ‘Right Now’

He stressed that the two bills “will create millions of jobs” and will make it possible to face “the climate crisis.”

US President Joe Biden on Friday pressed all House Democrats to vote “right now” to approve the two key pieces of his agenda, and promised that those plans will generate “incredible economic progress.” .

“I ask all members of the House of Representatives to vote yes on these two bills, right now,” Biden said in a statement to the White House.

The president was thus trying to support the attempts of the president of the US House of Representatives, Democrat Nancy Pelosi, to approve this Friday both the social plan valued at 1.75 billion dollars and an infrastructure project of 1 , 2 billion.

“This will be a huge boost (for the economy) when it happens. Let’s show the world that American democracy can work, and that it can boost our economy,” Biden stressed.

He stressed that the two bills “will create millions of jobs” and will make it possible to face “the climate crisis”, in addition to “reducing inflationary pressure in the economy.”

Biden appeared before the press to celebrate the new unemployment data in the United States, where the unemployment rate fell by two tenths and reached 4.6% of the workforce in October, the lowest level since March of 2020 the covid-19 pandemic affected the labor market.

“We are the fastest growing economic power, and the one that creates jobs at the fastest rate,” he added.

It is not yet clear whether the Democrats will be able to approve Biden’s initiatives this Friday, after months of infighting between the centrist and progressive sectors of the party and after 24 hours of vertigo.

Disagreements still remain, especially among some centrist lawmakers who consider Biden’s social plan too costly and have threatened to vote against it if they don’t have a cost estimate in hand this Friday.

Pelosi’s goal is to first vote on Biden’s social plan that includes spending increases on healthcare, childcare and climate change, among other issues.

Once that plan is approved, it would go to the US Senate for debate and consideration, something that might not happen until almost the end of the month.

Second, Pelosi wants a vote on the infrastructure law that was already approved in August in the Senate and that would go directly to the White House for Biden to sign and become law.

Democrats and Biden, whose approval numbers have fallen in recent months, need a victory to show they can rule, especially after Tuesday’s election night, in which they reaped worse-than-expected results and lost the Governor of Virginia. (I)
