Tropical Storm Wanda moves east in the Atlantic

Wanda will register little variation in intensity during the day today and the weekend.

Tropical storm Wanda, formed in the Atlantic in the last month of the season, is moving east-southeast this Friday even with maximum sustained winds of 50 miles per hour (85 km / h), according to the National Hurricane Center ( NHC) from USA

In a bulletin issued at 09:00 GMT, the NHC places Wanda about 640 miles (1,025 km) west-northwest of the Portuguese archipelago of the Azores, moving at 6 miles per hour (9 km / h) and without pose a threat to land.

According to the Miami-based NHC, Wanda will register little variation in intensity during the day today and the weekend, after which it is expected to become an extratropical cyclone.

A southeastern turn is expected to apply today accompanied by a decrease in travel speed on Saturday.

Wanda is the last name on this year’s list compiled by the World Meteorological Organization, which does not include names with the letters “x”, “y” and “z”, due to difficulties in pronunciation.

This year that organization decided not to use the letters of the Greek alphabet for the storms that arise after the list ends for now, due to the confusion that this created in 2020, the record year for storms and hurricanes.

Instead he created a supplemental list of common names in various languages.

According to meteorologists, 2021 is going to be a year with cyclonic activity above normal, but without reaching the end of 2020, when there were 30 tropical storms, of which 14 became hurricanes and, of these, seven major hurricanes.

The hurricane season in the Atlantic begins on June 1 and ends on November 30, but storms have often appeared in May for several years due to rising temperatures. (I)
