Some 30 people identified as relatives of victims of human rights violations in Venezuela protested this Friday at the doors of the headquarters of the Prosecutor’s Office in the central state of Lara, to request justice in cases of murders during acts of repression that took place in the country. .

The protesters, organized in the NGO Alianza de Familiares y Víctimas 2017 (Alfavic), demanded justice in cases in which there is no response and called on the Prosecutor’s Office for “the cessation of the policy of attrition and evasion of its obligation to investigate and determine responsibilities for the murders”, detailed the Provea organization, which reported on the protest on its Twitter account.

Dressed in white, with banners, flags and the voice of “Justice”, the protesters asked to know the progress of the cases of the people killed in the context of the protests that took place in Venezuela in 2017.

Provea insisted that the group denounced “procedural delay and little willingness to investigate and sanction.”

Do you know who cannot ‘turn the page’? The relatives of people assassinated for demanding a different Venezuela. Today they continue to fight demanding justice”, assured the general coordinator of Provea, Rafael Uzcátegui, in messages published on his Twitter.

Yesterday, the NGO Committee of Relatives of Victims of the Caracazo (Cofavic) urged the State not to “minimize”, “ignore or underestimate the obligation to repair the damage caused to the victims” of human rights violations, and to focus on a future without violations of basic guarantees.

In a statement, the NGO assured that “The obligations of truth, justice and reparation on the part of the State must not be minimized or seized in the name of the future or of reforms that are insufficient, or of the search for better political, social and economic times. It is not possible to build well-being ignoring so many open wounds due to the structural violence of the State”.
