Lula surrounds himself with the 27 governors of Brazil to close wounds after the assault on the Congress of Brasilia

The President of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silvahas surrounded himself this Monday with the 27 governors of the country to close wounds after the coup attempt last Sunday, in which thousands of followers of the far-right Jair Bolsonaro They assaulted the headquarters of the main powers, some “coup plotters”, said the president, who lacked a negotiating agenda or demands.

“What happened was planned. The people in the streets and in front of the barracks had no agenda or demands,” Lula said during the emergency meeting with the governors and the presidents of the Legislative and Judicial branches.

For Lula, the thousands of supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro who destroyed the seats of Congress, the Presidency and the Supreme Court they just wanted”deny the result of the electoral processtrying to show that there are failures, non-existent, in the polls”.

“The electoral result was respected by a good part of society. The times I lost (in elections) I returned home to prepare myself for the next electoral lawsuit,” he insisted.

The radical Bolsonaristas had been encamped for two months in front of the barracks in various cities calling for a military intervention with a coup against Lula, who on October 30 defeated Bolsonaro in the second round of elections.

“The coup was the only thing that was heard” in the camps, dismantled on Monday by the security organizations after a decision by the Supreme Court, Lula said.

According to the president, the new government, which took office on January 1, had “ten ministers for negotiation” with the protesters.

But, he questioned, “were they in front of the barracks, demanding what? Increased wages, more freedoms, housing, resumption of agricultural production? No, just the coup.”

According to the head of state, the more than 1,200 people arrested during the assault on the three powers on Sunday and in the camps set up this Monday “are going to remain in prison”, although he has admitted that “possibly they are victims” and “maneuver masses of constituents.”

“We are going to find who financed and paid for it. I am a specialist in camps and strikes and it is impossible to go two months without having financing to guarantee them their daily bread. We are not going to be authoritarian, but we are going to investigate“said the former union leader.

At the meeting, the governor of Sao Paulo and former Bolsonaro minister, Tarcisio de Freitashas called for “pacification” so that “Brazilian democracy becomes even stronger” with “gestures of all powers” and the governors.

Another squire of Bolsonaro, the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lirahas pointed out at the meeting that “institutions are not going to stop” and that measures will be taken against “this group that tried to leave democracy crouched.”

Already the president of the Supreme Court, Rose Weberhas told the governors that the depredation inside the Palace of Justice “saddened her enormously”, but that this “historical place”, full of “symbolism”, will be “rebuilt”.
