The European Commission has prepared a new report on fuel prices in the European Union countries. Prices shown are as of January 2, 2023. On the night of 30/31 December, wholesale fuel prices fell by over a dozen percent. Thanks to this, even though the full VAT rate on fuels came into effect from the new year, which increased from 8 to 23%, the price of fuels remained unchanged.
The European Commission compared petrol prices in EU countries
According to the EC report, the average price of fuel for diesel cars (including duties and taxes) in Poland is EUR 1.64. It is more expensive than in (EUR 1.56), Slovakia (EUR 1.61), Romania (EUR 1.52), Bulgaria (EUR 1.46), Slovenia (EUR 1.55), Croatia (EUR 1.61) , Cyprus (€1.61), Malta (€1.21), Portugal (€1.63) and the same as in .
EU94 petrol prices in Poland amount to EUR 1.40 – this is more than in Slovenia (EUR 1.32), Croatia (EUR 1.36), Romania (EUR 1.29) and Bulgaria (EUR 1.23). In the Czech Republic it costs EUR 1.50, in Slovakia – EUR 1.49. However, both countries have higher taxes on this type of fuel.

As we wrote, in December fuel prices in the Czech Republic were at the same or lower level than in Poland – and without the VAT reduction. Interestingly, you could also pay less than in our country for a liter of petrol at the Benzina station owned by Unipetrol, owned by PKN Orlen.
