The United Nations agency revealed, in a statement, that “according to reports” the eight minors died “due to the escalation of violence in Yemen” which, it recalled, “continues to take a deadly price on children and families.”

In accordance with Unicef, since 2015 “more than 10,000 children have been killed or maimed”, which means that four minors a day in the last six years have been killed or injured.

However, the note notes that “the real figure could be much higher.”

Likewise, Unicef ​​denounced that in the last month at least 11 children have been killed or maimed in Marib province, the last bastion of government forces in the north of the country, and considered strategic for being rich in oil and main point of connection with other cities in southern Yemen.

The agency urged all parties to the conflict to “Protect civilians, prioritize the safety and well-being of children and stop attacks on civilian infrastructure and in densely populated areas.”

He also recalled that it is estimated that more than 1.7 million children in Yemen have been forced to displace, more than 2 million do not go to school and almost 2.3 million children under the age of five suffer from acute malnutrition.

The war in Yemen broke out in 2014 and in March 2015 it turned into a regional conflict with the intervention of a Saudi-led military coalition against Houthi rebels and in support of the internationally recognized government.

According to the UN, the conflict has caused the largest humanitarian catastrophe on the planet and more than 80% of the Yemeni population requires some kind of help. (I)
