The workers of UK trains are called this week to other two 48-hour strike daystoday and tomorrow and Friday and Saturday, to claim salary improvements.

The strike called by the British Rail, Maritime and Transport Union (RMT) will have an impact for people returning to work after the Christmas holidays.

The railway sector, which was already on strike from December 24 to 27, is demanding a 7% wage increase, but the Network Rail company has offered a 5% increase, below inflation, which exceeds 10%.

The general secretary of the RMT union, Mick Lynch, has affirmed to the BBC that he regrets that the strike “is prolonged in this way”, but that the Government “is not doing anything” to end the dispute. The British Minister of Transport, Mark Harper, for his part, has regretted that the RMT rejected his offer of a salary increase. “I would prefer that they abandon the pickets and return to the negotiating table to reach an agreement on reforms and wages with the employers,” he added.
